In 2013, GENYOUth and global technology leader SAP came together to expand AdVenture Capital, a unique, deeply impactful program for students 13-17. Since then, SAP and GENYOUth’s unique partnership has inspired, empowered, and funded youth-driven health and wellness initiatives across the country by providing resources, support, and mentors for students leading change in their schools and communities.

AdVenture Capital was thrilled to join HYPE this week at their annual High School Youth Leadership Summit, presented by the Food Trust. It was our pleasure to spend some time with so many brave curious and bold young leaders who want to make their schools a healthier place!

Nearly 100 students from the Chicago area came together this September with volunteers from DMI, Inc, to explore, learn about, and ultimately design solutions to food insecurity, food waste, or sustainable nutrition challenges. At the end of the day, students pitched their ideas to a panel of judges for the chance to win funding and support. Thirteen groups walked away with $1000 each to bring their big ideas to life this year.

During the SAP Social Innovation Series in Chicago last year, this bold, creative and curious AdCap team pitched their BIG idea to bring a health and wellness fair to their school to help engage the community and share best practices with both students and staff. This spring they were able to bring their idea to life!

This fall, SAP once again teamed up with GENYOUth to present the 2017 SAP Social Innovation Series, powered by AdVenture Capital. Over the course of three days and three cities, 180 students ages 13-17 worked side by side with SAP mentors to design student-led, innovative initiatives to health and wellness issues in their schools and communities. At the end of each event, students pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, and 30 winners received $1000 each to bring their idea to life.

We caught up with Abby E., a 12th grader from Indiana, and this year's $10,000 recipient for the SAP Bill McDermott Scholarship. In partnership with SAP, The SAP Bill McDermott Scholarship is offered to students in GENYOUth programs each year to provide funding for postsecondary education. As part of her scholarship application, Abby shared how she overcame personal adversity when a close family member developed a disability that removed her ability to hear. Abby taught herself adaptive sign language to communicate and now helps to interpret at activities.
